New and Upcoming Superhero Movies and Series Part II

A combination of the films and series coming up

An inside look at upcoming Superhero movies and shows months and years ahead of release dates. Picking up where Part 1 left off, #26.

26. Batgirl – Movie – Expected 2022

Singer/Actress Leslie Grace stars as Barbra Gordon, daughter of Gotham City’s notorious police commissioner, James Gordon. Warner Bros will bring it to theatres and also to HBO Max.

27. Untitled Birds of Prey/Black Canary Project – Movie – Expected 2023

So far the script penned by Misha Green is being kept under wraps but we have learned this is a spinoff of DC movie Birds of Prey and features “Lovecraft Country” star, Jurnee Smollett. Projected to release in theatres and HBO Max in 2023.

28. Secret Invasion – Miniseries – 2022

This next installment in the MCU series world follows Fury and Talos as they attempt to stop the Skrulls who have infiltrated the highest spheres of the Marvel Universe. Lots of rumors surrounding the cast from Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Emilia Clarke, Olivia Colman, and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. alum. Though Chloe Bennet has denied returning to the MCU. Disney + plans to release this in 2022.

29. Sweet Tooth Season 2 – Series – 2022

Based on DC Comics series by writer/artist Jeff Lemire, season two continues the journey following a young half-deer, human boy named Gus, trying to survive in a post apocalyptic world. There are eight more episodes cleared by Netflix to release in 2022.

30. Armor Wars – Series – Expected 2022

Finally we’ll get to see more of James Rhodes aka Rhodey aka War Machine, and it will be welcomed after the events of Endgame. This series should be a lead out of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, penned by Yassir Lester, and is releasing on Disney + as usual for the MCU series.

31. Static Shock – Movie – Expected 2023

This live action rendition of popular early 2000s animated series, Static Shock, Virgil Hawkins will be played by Michael B. Jordan while the screenplay will be penned by Randy McKinnon (upcoming Lost Boys remake). HBO Max is said to house this along with the usual theatre release.

32. Blade – Movie – Unknown release – Pre-Production

The Blade revamp has been expected for some time now, and it is finally returning with a bang. The previous day walker was famously played by Wesley Snipes and will now be played by none other than, Mahershala Ali. Another script story kept under tight wraps.

33. Stargirl Season 3 – Series – 2022

The CW’s new hit show starring Brec Bassinger is coming for another season. The show follows high schooler Courtney Whitmore, who enlists the help of young heroes to carry on the work of the Justice Society of America. Joel McHale is also becoming a series regular as Starman.

34. Fantastic Four – Movie – Pre-Production

Marvel Studios is keeping the details of yet another Fantastic 4 film, under wraps. We do know they have secured director Jon Watts to helm the project. We may have given up hope on a decent Fantastic Four film previously, but Disney acquiring the rights to the Marvel team when they purchased 21st Century Fox in 2019 just might make this a “look forward to” film.

35. Zatanna – Movie – In Development

Promising Young Woman filmmaker Emerald Fennell is attached to assist with writing the screenplay of Zatanna, about the human born woman with the ability to control her innate magical powers. It is too early in development to know casting rumors or plot details but for now, Fennell has only agreed to help write this Warner Bros. film. We should expect to see it on HBO Max in addition to theatre releases.

36. Judge Dredd: Mega City One – Series – In Development

Karl Urban is putting the Judge Dredd helmet and boots back on for this series without a home focusing on America Jara, a young woman raised in Mega City One, and who at first chose a non-heroic path. As the development continues, we’ll look to see who picks up this pilot.

37. Harley Quinn Season 3 – Series – In Development

The Harley Quinn adult animated series found a new hope at HBO Max after DC Universe shifted to become a digital comic hub. Kaley Cuoco and Lake Bell, along with the other celebs lending their voices to the iconic characters are returning for another season, which is still not for kids.

38. Ironheart – Series – In Development

Riri Williams was introduced to the MCU in 2015 and fans are excited for this Disney + series focusing on the young, engineering student who built her own Iron-Man themed supersuit and began fighting crime as Ironheart. Dominique Thorne (If Beale Street Could Talk and Judas and the Black Messiah) will make her first appearance in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

39. Blue Beetle – Series – Pre-Production

Cobra Kai star, Xolo Mariduena will star as Jamie Reyes, the boy who finds a beetle that imbues him with powers, and is the alter ego of the Teen Titan. HBO Max will be the streaming service we can view this series on.

40. Untitled Green Lantern – Series – In Development

HBO Max has been busy lately with its slew of series coming out and here is yet another iconic DC story making its way to HBO’s list of superhero series. The series is co-written and executive produced by Seth Grahame-Smith (The Lego Batman Movie, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter) and Marc Guggenheim (Arrow, DC Legends of Tomorrow), and will feature new characters along with several iterations of the character.

41. Silk – Series – In Development

Peter Parker wasn’t the one bit by a radioactive spider on that fateful fieldtrip. Cindy Moon aka Silk is getting her own series currently being developed at Sony and Producers Chris Miller and Phil Lord are bringing it to live-action life. They’re in talks with Lauren Moon (Good Trouble and Atypical) to write the script.

42. Untitled The Boys Spinoff – Series – In Development

Jenson Ackles (Supernatural) is set to play Soldier Boy in this series spinoff and with season 3 of The Boys coming soon, fans are excited to see where the Congress embedded Supe terrorist plot goes. With this series spinoff, we’ll get a look into Vought’s past as we get into a college-set storyline featuring Lizzie Broadway, Maddie Phillips, Jaz Sinclair, and Shane Paul McGhie. Will we see the next Homelander in the making?

43. I Am Groot – Series – In Development

*Spoiler alert* When Groot sacrificed himself qat the end of Guardians of the Galaxy, our pain was eased with the introduction of Baby Groot. We’ll have to wait until 2023 to see what unfolds in Vol. 3, but for now, we know this adorable seedling is getting his own series on Disney+, in addition to appearing in the Holiday Special featuring the other Guardians.

44. Wonder Woman 3 – Movie – In Development

Gal Gadot returns for the third installment of the Wonder Woman piece of the DC world. Patty Jenkins returns to this possible 90s scene produced by Warner Bros. This also means we can expect a theatrical and HBO Max release.

45. Untitled Superman Project – Movie – In Development

We’ve seen J.J. Abrams revamp many great film and series franchises, and he is back at it with what appears to be a reboot of the heroic alien’s story. Ta-Nehisi Coates is writing this film produced by Abrams at Warner Bros.

46. Echo – Series – In Development

Skilled fighter Echo, Maya Lopez, is getting her own spinoff series on Disney+. Maya Lopez was born deaf and has the ability to mimic her opponents’ fighting skills. She made her first appearance in Daredevil in 1999 written by David Mack. We can get a first look at Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez in Hawkeye this year.

47. Untitled Wakanda Series – Series – In Development

We were excited to learn the second Black Panther would be released after the loss of Chadwick Boseman, but fans can also look forward to a series in the works at Disney+ created by Ryan Coogler. Rumors are that Danai Gurira will be reprising her role as Okoye in this possible origin story. Coogler is signed for a 5-year exclusive television deal with Disney, so we can see many trips to Wakanda coming up.

48. Captain America 4 – Movie – In Pre-Production

After taking on the mantle of Captain America in “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” Anthony Mackie has signed on to star in the upcoming Captain America 4. A director has yet to be announced but Malcolm Spellman and Dalan Musson will be taking over screenwriting for the Marvel Studios project.
